Common sense suggests you need cold water to cool down something hot, but Nvidia’s approach is different.

  • Introducing Liquid Cooling: Liquid, which has a much higher thermal conductivity than air, is circulated directly to the chips inside the servers to absorb heat.
  • The Principle of Warm Water: There is no need to freeze or chill the coolant. Using water that is slightly warmer than room temperature (around 40~45°C) is more than enough to absorb the heat from GPUs that reach 80~90°C.
  • Maximizing Energy Savings: Because there is no need to run massive chillers to cool the water down, the electricity used for cooling is drastically reduced compared to traditional methods. Water consumption also drops significantly.

As a result, this technology is expected to significantly lower the operating costs of data centers and play a major role in mitigating AI-flation in the long run.
